Best Contemporary!
It was such a tongue-in-cheek idea and I really didn't think I had a chance against some of the other entries - getting Best Contemporary was just the icing on the cake!
Our judge was Sandra Meech from the UK. Sandra was also our guest speaker for the day and then gave a 2 day workshop using mixed media in our quilts - fantastic ideas, so many things to think about and do, with some pretty neat things to use and have fun with!

Tote & Gloat Challenge

The Tote & Gloat Quilt Challenge this year is Go Green. Here are some teasers from 2 of my finished entries (I may have another one if I sort things out and work hard, but chance will be a fine thing, too).
This is the corner of an old handkerchief I found in my MIL's glory box. It was really too thin to be used for wiping one's nose, but here it has been given new life and a chance to show off my quilting skills!
The second one has a photo of my dearly beloved with a camel - in the background is a C130 aircraft, so I've played on the Defence Force going green by considering using camels as a means for transporting troops - this is a segment of the 'newspaper' report. I printed the 'article' onto fine silk-like paper that had Vliesofix on the back, put it through the printer, allowed it to dry, then ironed/stitched it on to the quilted background. This is just a humorous piece of work.

Whoo!Hoo! A Place in the Winners' Circle!

We had an excellent Tote & Gloat today - it didn't rain, so we didn't have to worry about the speakers not being heard, there was a great array of Happy Villages and Accidental Landscapes for people to view as they came in the door, lots of challenge quilts, a fantastic mix of vendors and an on-site cafe.
Our guest speaker was Sandy Corry from Australia. She had a beautiful display of her quilts, many of which have won prizes. She also judged our challenge quilts and because there was only one entry in the group quilt an extra prize for 3rd place was made in the Advanced Category, and I won it!! with this little quilt!
I was so surprised because there were so many fantastic entries. But I had fun, and if you click on it to enlarge it you will see some pretty good quilting and innovative ways of joining the blocks together - so you see, you just don't know how things are going to be judged, so take the risk, jump in and try a challenge!
