I have closed the library - it was to be for only a week, but I will open again after Easter - so that we could do some long overdue refurbishnment.
Not only did the whole place need to be jazzed up (made happier) but the shelves needed to be re-organised.
So after lots of shifting, re-writing the design and deciding on colours, today was the first real day of new-ness.
I wanted to show you the first wall painted. This is where the Military Collection will sit.
All the walls have been the pale grey, which is pretty boring. This colour is called Monza and it is almost fire engine red. I have employed a man to prep the walls and do the bulk of the painting. Today I have been assisting by doing the cutting work - that is painting the corners and around all the fiddly bits - Ian has been doing the large scale areas by rolling.
What you see of this wall is half the length. This afternoon we had 2 coats on and it will harden over the weekend.
We have an even larger wall that will be a lovely golden yellow - watch out for that photo next week!
Now for some sewing over the weekend :)

Day One of the Book Sale
Just wanted to post a couple of photos of the books we are having in the book sale - well, actually it is all of the 10,000+ books that we have deleted off the catalogue and from the library!
Day two tomorrow as well as a Camp garage sale - so I'm hoping that a lot more of the books will go.
Today was really for the local community which supports the library. This was our first book sale and I figured that some would like to have a leisurely look, instead of the jammed pack rush you get with the big town library/Red Cross sales.

Here Are Some Numbers
There is very little left to delete off the catalogue, mostly books that don't have bar codes or for some reason the scanner couldn't read them. I will have to delete them manually.
But here are the numbers from the past 3 weeks:
Baby's board books: 60
Picture books: 1,304
Junior/teen fiction: 1,653
Junior Non-fiction: 1,253
Adult fiction: 3,513
Adult Non-fiction: 2,785
Total: 10,568
I haven't deleted any DVD's or Military books yet. The whole Military section will be totally re-organised. I think that I will need to put stickers on the spine to identify where they go, otherwise the collection will be very mixed up (currently I have a separate Military area from the general collection, but the City Librarian wants to divide it even further).
I am so looking forward to doing something creative this weekend! No work on Saturday, yippee!
