Library Refurbishment - We're Almost Done!

Sorry I didn't get to post yesterday. By the time I got home (it was dark and I hadn't fed the chickens) I was pretty pooped. But I did get a photo of the teal painted wall:
Actually I think it is the same colour as my kitchen! Funny that :)
Today help arrived from town (Palmerston North City Library) and with extra hands for an hour or so, loads of books got on the shelves and they are mostly in the correct order.
At the end of the day we had a little celebration and thank you for some of the people who have helped - here's Jo being the perfect hostess:
There are a few of us working tomorrow, even though it is a holiday (Easter Friday), but it means that if everything is finished; books tidied, floor vacuumed, windows cleaned, painting finished and the last of the shelves put together with the extra stored away, we can relax and enjoy the rest of the weekend.
We have borrowed a couple of sofas and with the central area carpeted like a fashion runway it looks so beautiful! There has been a suggestion that we could hold movie evenings - I think I will have to do some research and pull a few strings of my own to loan out some suitable DVDs - ANZAC Day is coming up and there must be something suitable :)
So, after tomorrow I hope to be able to take some panoramic photos to show you the new and classy Linton Community Library!

A Celebration to You

I have just about had 5000 visitors to this blog - that is so amazing! So as a thank you to all you visitors, I'm going to put together a little thank you parcel for some lucky person.
BUT, as I suspect many of you are lurkers, you have to leave a comment on this post. This isn't for just anyone, this is for you, my regular visitors - this is my way of saying thank you for keeping in touch.
So, take a look at this photo - it's from my holiday this year.
Leave a comment on this post about the photo - tell me what you think is happening here (or was), how old it is, the colour of the paint used - anything, so long as it's related to what you see here.
You must do this by midnight 20th October 2009 (NZDT).
A lucky winner will be drawn out by Random.org.
What's going to be in the prize? - I'm still working on that - something to do with the land ('cause I have a lifestyle block), something New Zealand and probably something to do with quilting. There you go - pretty airy fairy I know!
Good luck!

A Pinata and Lemon Bars

We had an extra treat to celebrate the birthday - a fabulous pinata filled with sweets, chocolate coins and party poppers. This sea horse was a difficult one to break - it even defeated the cardboard rolls from the wrapping paper, but we had fun and in the end it succumbed to a broom handle (actually even that got broken!). The chocolate coins and the party poppers didn't survive the bashing!

This Piece De Resistance are Lemon Bars that Derrick made from his new cookbook, Baking Illustrated: the practical kitchen companion for the home baker (by the editors of Cook's Illustrated Magazine) - they not only look fantastic, but taste so divine - one piece is fulfilling, lemony and entices you back for more later.
